Wireless Credit Card Processing

smallwirelessOne problem that contractors shared with us is getting paid by some customers after a job is completed.

Picture it this way.  You have a service call.  You do a great job and solve their problem.

At this point, maybe you leave them a carbon copy type of invoice.  Or head back to your office to complete an invoice and mail it to the customer.

And now the waiting game begins.

  • Phone tag.
  • Voice mail.
  • The old standby of “check’s in the mail.”

What makes it worse is the amount of effort required to collect on a “small job.”

For example, a plumber I know mentioned the other day that it took him 6 months to collect on a $350 job.  Definitely not the best use of your time…

And those small jobs add up.  So does your time and aggravation trying to collect on your hard day’s work.

Let me ask you this — wouldn’t it make sense to get paid right then and there, when you are standing in front of the customer?

Well, now you can.

Wireless Credit Card Processing

wirelessprinterHere’s how it works.

Assuming you have good wireless coverage (like a cell phone), you simply swipe your customer’s credit card after finishing the service call or job.

Once the transaction is approved, you print out a receipt for your customer to sign.

Keep the signed receipt for your records, and hand them a duplicate receipt.

It’s a good policy to keep signed receipts on file for three years.  That way if your customer ever tries to dispute the charge, you have proof that they approved the transaction.

Yes, it really is that simple.

If you want to mail your customer a follow up invoice marked “paid” you can do that if you want.

The important point is getting paid for the job right then and there, without having to chase people to get paid for the work you have already completed for them.
